Sarah Leung is going to the Department of Energy at an important time for carbon technologies.

The director for carbon capture, utilization and storage at the White House Council on Environmental Quality is heading back to the Department of Energy.

Sarah Leung, who joined the White House office in May 2023 on a detail assignment, will return to DOE and join the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management.

On Friday, CEQ confirmed that Leung has left her role, “where she helped advance the safe and responsible development of CCUS” at the office. Leung will return to DOE as the carbon storage program manager at the fossil energy and carbon management office, CEQ said in a statement.
