President Joe Biden will attend the inauguration of his successor in January regardless of who wins, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday.
The ceremonial handover of the presidency has been a long-standing tradition in the United States, but it’s one that outgoing President Donald Trump spurned in 2021 when he skipped Biden’s inauguration.
Biden “certainly is going to partake” in the inaugural events Jan. 20, 2025, regardless of whether it’s Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris assuming the presidency, Jean-Pierre said Wednesday during a White House news conference.
“This president believes in the peaceful transfer of power,” Jean-Pierre said. “It’s not about him.”
