The Biden administration on Wednesday released a national six-year strategy for addressing heat meant to prompt proactive planning for one of the deadliest forms of extreme weather.
The document outlines goals for improving communication and education around the dangers of extreme heat, finding solutions to prevent heat illness and injury, and solidifying support to communities through the National Integrated Heat Health Information System.
The strategy also discusses work that federal agencies — including EPA, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency — have already done to address heat.
NOAA is simultaneously announcing $200,000 to help support extreme heat preparedness. The funds will benefit up to 10 communities for “table-top exercises” to help emergency managers practice responding to simulated extreme heat events.
