EPA’s internal watchdog will dig into the agency’s use of artificial intelligence.
EPA’s Office of Inspector General said in a project notice released Wednesday that it will launch an inquiry into how the agency is tapping into the new tech industry that could change how environmental problems are evaluated and fixed. The Biden administration has pushed to plug into AI, rallying for a hiring surge for experts in the field at agencies across the federal government.
“As part of this inquiry, we will conduct interviews, gather data, and analyze the information for adherence to regulations, policies, and procedures,” said the notice, which was signed by EPA Inspector General Sean O’Donnell.
Staff from the watchdog office may contact officials and managers across EPA’s program offices and regional branches to conduct the review.
