Former President Donald Trump over the weekend vowed during a campaign rally in Minnesota to reverse a 20-year mining ban the Biden administration imposed in the state.
“We will end that ban, in about, what do you think, in about 10 minutes, I would say about 10 to 15 minutes, right Pete,” Trump said from the podium in St. Cloud, Minn., with a nod to Republican Rep. Pete Stauber of Minnesota, who attended the rally.
“Tonight, I pledge to Minnesota miners that when I am reelected, I will reverse the Biden-Harris attack on your way of life and we will turn the Iron Range into a mineral powerhouse like never before,” Trump continued.
The comments mark the second time in a span of mere months that Trump has vowed to boost mineral production and mining in Minnesota, a swing state where the former president and his running mate JD Vance are rallying voters in the final stretch before the election. Trump lost Minnesota in the 2020 election, a state that hasn’t backed a GOP candidate for the White House since 1972. The former president previously promised in May to bring the state’s Iron Range “roaring back to life.”
