President Donald Trump is taking aim at a nonpartisan Washington think tank in his drive to downsize the federal bureaucracy.

Trump issued an order Friday directing the elimination — to the maximum extent allowed by the law — of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in the Smithsonian Institution.

The think tank, established in 1968 by Congress as a tribute to the ideals of President Woodrow Wilson, works on a host of issues including foreign policy, climate change and Arctic research.
