Chris Wright, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Energy, has started meeting with senators in an effort to secure confirmation.

Wright, a Trump donor and CEO of Denver-based Liberty Energy, kicked off his Hill meet-and-greet Wednesday with Senate Energy and Natural Resources ranking member John Barrasso, who will become the chamber’s No. 2 Republican next year.

“Chris Wright will be a powerhouse Energy Secretary,” the Wyoming Republican wrote in a post on X. “He knows unleashing American energy will lower prices and strengthen our national security… Chris will put American energy first.”

Barrasso, a staunch supporter of increased domestic oil and gas drilling, was always expected to support the fracking executive’s nomination, but the senator’s voice will be especially important as he becomes majority whip.
