Some influential Senate Democrats are joining a growing bloc against the Biden administration’s proposed rules on hydrogen.
On Wednesday, more than a dozen lawmakers urged Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to loosen contentious emission guidelines implementing a critical hydrogen tax credit included in the Inflation Reduction Act. It’s the latest in a flurry of lawmaker letters on the issue.
“Treasury’s guidance would jeopardize billions of dollars of investment in clean hydrogen projects, render the cleanest forms of hydrogen uneconomical, and imperil efforts to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors of our economy,” the senators wrote.
The missive features Democrats who were previously relatively neutral on the issue, including Sens. Alex Padilla of California, Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, John Hickenlooper of Colorado, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Chris Coons of Delaware.
