The Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday passed a $44.6 billion Interior-Environment funding package that contrasts with a tighter-fisted and rider-laden bill approved by the Republican-controlled House.
The committee quickly approved the measure on a 28-1 vote, with Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida the sole opponent. It also advanced the State Department-Foreign Operations, Commerce-Justice-Science and Transportation proposals.
“These bills deliver resources to help ensure every American has access to clean air and clean water, and to combat the climate crisis, and protect our country’s incredible lands and waterways,” said Chair Patty Murray (D-Wash.).
EPA would maintain relative level funding in the Senate legislation. The agency would receive $9.29 billion for fiscal 2025 — slightly above its current funding of nearly $9.16 billion.
