U.S. factories can produce enough solar modules to meet nearly all domestic demand, according to a new report from the Solar Energy Industries Association and consultancy Wood Mackenzie.

The quarterly Solar Market Insight report — released Wednesday — found that the country added a record 9.3 gigawatts of solar module manufacturing capacity during the third quarter of this year. That brings the country’s total annual output to nearly 40 GW.

Sylvia Leyva Martinez, a principal analyst at Wood Mackenzie and an author of the report, said the results show the “material impact” of clean energy tax credits from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.

“There has been a drastic increase in total manufacturing capacity,” Martinez said. “We’re still seeing more capacity that is also under construction, and even more announcements for 2025.”
