Republicans return from recess to hound Democrats on energy

Leaders have called up bills and scheduled hearings with an eye toward the elections.

In the last three scheduled weeks of the legislative session before the November elections, House Republicans intend to dedicate time and resources to making Democrats answer for their party’s energy policies.

With hearings planned and floor votes on tap, GOP leaders also see an opportunity to showcase what they would do if given an expanded governing majority next year.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) conceded as much during a recent interview with Punchbowl News.

“We’ve brought a number of bills to deal with high inflation, [the] high cost for energy. … You saw almost every Democrat vote against those bills,” Scalise said. “And we’re going to keep bringing bills like that.”
