‘Remain apolitical,’ EPA tells staff as transition looms

The agency was targeted for rollbacks during the Trump administration. Employees are worrying about what Trump 2.0 might bring.

EPA is urging its employees to remain professional and steer clear of party politics as they grow anxious over Tuesday’s election.

Wes Carpenter, the agency’s deputy chief of staff for management, told staffers to stay disciplined in the transition, according to an internal email obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News.

Vice President Kamala Harris is facing off with former President Donald Trump in a tight presidential race that ends Tuesday, with Trump pledging to take apart the federal government bit by bit if he reclaims the White House.

“As public servants, we have a fundamental responsibility to remain apolitical, neutral, and dedicated to the mission of the agency, regardless of any changes in leadership,” Carpenter said in the Friday email.
