A state air pollution regulator will be named to the roster of experts providing advice on the agency’s high stakes review of smog standards.

EPA Administrator Michael Regan will get at least one more opportunity to put his stamp on an advisory panel set to aid in a closely watched new review of national smog standards.

Barely a week after Regan named four new members to the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee, EPA is poised to take nominations for a fifth seat reserved for a representative of state air pollution regulators, according to a notice that will run in Monday’s Federal Register.

The post is currently held by Henry “Dirk” Felton, a research scientist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation who is retiring later this month.

The nomination period will run for 30 days, likely to be followed by time for public feedback on the candidates. The notice does not set a schedule for naming Felton’s replacement. As of publication time Friday, an EPA spokesperson had not replied to questions earlier in the day on that score.
