Ohio once demonstrated the willingness of red states to embrace money from President Joe Biden’s climate agenda.

Now, it’s the center of a conservative effort to rid government of any and all clean energy subsidies.

Vivek Ramaswamy, the short-lived co-leader of Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency, will announce Monday his long-expected campaign for Ohio governor. His harsh stance against climate policy is already shaping the gubernatorial field, signaling that the state’s next governor may bring a DOGE-like chain saw to billions of dollars in renewable energy and clean tech investments.

“We’re a conservative state, and it’s time for us to finally be governed like one,” Ramaswamy says on his campaign website, which went live in the days before his official gubernatorial announcement. “Fossil fuels are a requirement for human flourishing.”
