Q&A: Biden’s water chief on PFAS, Trump rollbacks

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to ensure “the cleanest air and water on the planet” once he enters office next week.

The outgoing head of EPA’s water office has some advice for how he can do that: Keep the Biden administration’s new drinking water rules in place.

“There are legitimate, health-protective regulations that we’ve put in place in the last four years that will accomplish those objectives,” said Bruno Pigott, EPA’s acting assistant administrator for water.

Pigott, 64, joined EPA in 2021 after more than two decades at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. He initially served as EPA deputy assistant administrator for water, then became the acting head of the office in February of last year, a position he will stay in until Trump’s inauguration.
