The House Small Business Committee approved a slew of Republican-led bills Tuesday designed to protect small businesses from red tape.

Florida Republican Rep. Aaron Bean’s H.R. 9033, the “Let American Businesses be on Record (LABOR) Act,” would increase small business input on Department of Labor rulemaking — similar to existing mandates for EPA. It passed 13-11.

Minnesota Republican Rep. Brad Finstad’s “Prove It Act,” H.R. 7198, passed by the same party-line margin. It aims to increase rulemaking transparency and reduce implementation costs.

Finstad said the bill would “take power away from unelected bureaucrats and rightfully return it to small business owners.” But ranking member Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) said the bill would bog down the Small Business Association’s Office of Advocacy.
