House Republicans are hoping to highlight President Donald Trump’s “energy dominance” agenda in a hearing this week exploring potential strategies to increase domestic power generation as demands continue to rise.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy and Regulatory Affairs, now led by Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.), will likely focus on Republican-favored baseload generation like oil, natural gas and nuclear through rollbacks of Biden environmental regulations and a streamlining of the nation’s permitting laws.
“For far too long, suffocating regulations and unnecessary red tape have stifled innovation, hamstrung energy producers, and driven up prices for American families and businesses,” Burlison said. “This subcommittee stands ready to assist President Trump in the fight to restore American energy dominance and ensure Americans have reliable energy at lower prices.”
The hearing comes as Trump has gotten off to a swift start on energy policy, declaring an “energy emergency” on his first day in office and signing other executive orders meant to increase energy production on federal lands. To the dismay of renewable energy backers, he has sought to stymie wind and solar power.
