The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable told Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee leaders the group supports the confirmation of Interior secretary nominee Doug Burgum.
In a letter to ENR Chair Mike Lee (R-Utah) and ranking member Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), the advocacy group said the former North Dakota governor’s “support for outdoor recreation, the outdoor recreation economy, and the protection of public lands and waters makes his leadership critical for the Administration and the Department.”
The group, comprising dozens of outdoor recreation advocacy entities, praised Burgum for establishing the North Dakota Office of Outdoor Recreation — making it the 22nd state to create such an agency. The group also praised Burgum’s commitment to supporting outdoor recreation.
“As an avid outdoorsman who hunts, snowmobiles, sails, skis, rides horses, side by sides and more, we are hopeful that the Governor’s long-time admiration of Teddy Roosevelt, sophisticated understanding of business, and commitment to public-private partnerships will help support and grow the recreation economy, its adjacent sectors, and all who benefit from it in every corner of the country,” the group wrote in the letter.
