National Wildlife Refuge Association appoints new president

The National Wildlife Refuge Association has appointed a former Defenders of Wildlife leader as its president and CEO.

Desirée Sorenson-Groves comes to the NWRA after serving as the vice president of land and habitat conservation at Defenders of Wildlife. She has also served as the director of the Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign.

“I am excited about the future of the organization and of the Refuge System,” Lynn Scarlett, vice chair of the association, said in a statement. “I have worked with Desirée since my tenure at the Department of the Interior and am thrilled she will lead the Association at such a critical time.”

From 2005 to 2019, Sorenson-Groves also held a number of roles at the NWRA, including vice president.
