“We will wholeheartedly oppose those actions and be well-prepared for litigation,” Gov. Greg Gianforte said.

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte is warning President Joe Biden against joining a long list of outgoing presidents who designate new national monuments as their terms end.

In a letter sent this week to Biden and Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the Republican asked if the president plans to designate any national monuments in his state or impose new rules or mineral withdrawals.

“In the event your administration, departments, or agencies ignore this request and decide to recklessly plow ahead, imposing rules and decisions on Montana by dictatorial fiat,” Gianforte wrote, “please know we will wholeheartedly oppose those actions and be well-prepared for litigation.”
