The League of Conservation Voters has chosen as its new leader the current head of its massive political spending operation.
Pete Maysmith, the current senior vice president for campaigns, will ascend next month to be LCV’s new president, the group announced Wednesday.
Maysmith, 55, has led LCV’s campaign operations since 2017, including its super political action committee, which he has made one of the nation’s largest super PACs in contributions and spending. It is a major force for the environmental movement’s electoral activities. The group and its affiliates spent a record $164 million in the 2024 election cycle to help presidential candidate Kamala Harris and other Democratic candidates.
He’ll succeed Gene Karpinski, who announced last year that he planned to step down after nearly two decades at LCV’s helm.
