The highest-ranking Democrats on the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees are calling for more information on the Justice Department’s moves to fire, reassign and revoke job offers for staff.
In a Tuesday letter to acting Attorney General James McHenry, the lawmakers expressed alarm that the moves are indicative of a push to fill DOJ and the Federal Bureau of Investigation with career employees loyal to President Donald Trump.
“The career professionals you summarily dismissed or transferred from components throughout the Justice Department … are part of an expert, non-political workforce tasked with protecting our national security and public safety,” wrote Judiciary ranking member Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Oversight and Government Reform ranking member Gerry Connolly of Virginia.
They noted that many of the affected individuals have served under and been promoted and awarded by Republican and Democratic administrations, including during Trump’s first term.
