California Rep. Jared Huffman will officially become the top Democrat of the House Natural Resources Committee next year, completing a campaign that pushed out current ranking member Raúl Grijalva.
House Democrats on Tuesday also voted to confirm Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota to be Agriculture Committee ranking member and Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) to lead the party’s messaging on the Oversight and Accountability panel.
In voting for Craig and Connolly, the Democratic Caucus affirmed recommendations Monday from the party’s Steering Committee. Craig was competing against Reps. Jim Costa of California and incumbent David Scott of Georgia. Connolly squared off with New York’s Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), who challenged Huffman at Grijalva’s (D-Ariz.) urging, dropped out of the race shortly before the final vote, allowing him to be elected by acclamation.
