The House easily approved a water infrastructure bill Tuesday to fight flooding and extreme storms, improve the nation’s ports, and support ecosystem restoration.
The “Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act” passed 399-18 and now heads to the Senate. All the opponents were Republicans.
The bipartisan compromise bill would authorize a range of flood protection, navigation and restoration projects and studies, as well as direct the Army Corps of Engineers to make major policy changes.
Top members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee had been negotiating in recent weeks to get a final bill over the finish line.
