Republicans announced new leadership Thursday for House Financial Services subcommittees that will contend with insurance and green investing issues.

Rep. Mike Flood of Nebraska will lead the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee. He will take the helm as climate-fueled disasters cause insurance rates to spike. Wildfire coverage is coming under scrutiny because of blazes in Los Angeles.

In announcing Flood’s appointment, Rep. French Hill of Arkansas, the newly elected Financial Services Committee chair, nodded to the National Flood Insurance Program as an important area of oversight for the subcommittee.
