House Republicans are prioritizing energy legislation during the first weeks of the new Congress, with a fracking bill already on the agenda.
The chamber plans to vote as soon as this week on the “Protecting American Energy Production Act,” which would prevent the president from enacting a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing.
The bill is a holdover from the previous Congress, when Republicans said President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were antagonistic to the oil and gas drilling practice.
Even though President-elect Donald Trump would almost certainly not move against fracking, taking up the bill now allows the House GOP to highlight the party’s priorities.
