Lawmakers on the House Energy and Commerce Committee will host top officials from two of the nation’s most prominent energy agencies.
The Energy, Climate and Grid Security Subcommittee will hold a budget hearing on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. House Republicans proposed $147 million for the agency in their fiscal 2025 plan, a roughly $10 million increase.
Lawmakers from both parties, however, will be more interested in how the NRC commissioners — especially recently reconfirmed Chair Christopher Hanson — plan on implementing the ADVANCE Act, a sweeping nuclear energy package recently signed into law by President Joe Biden.
“We look forward to discussing next steps to ensure the NRC is implementing the law effectively and in accordance with Congressional intent in order to power the future and cement U.S. energy leadership for decades to come,” said full committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and subcommittee Chair Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.).
