House committees to vote on regulation, weather bills

The House Small Business Committee will mark up several Republican-led bills this week on federal regulations. The House Science, Space and Technology Committee will take up artificial intelligence bills.

One of the AI proposals, the “TAME Extreme Weather Act,” would have NOAA use the technology to address the growing threat of extreme weather.

Many of the bills before Small Business followed the Supreme Court’s June decision overturning Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council. That 1984 decision gave broad authority for agencies to interpret ambiguous laws.

H.R. 8033, the “Regulatory Transparency for Small Businesses Act,” from Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Mo.), would require agencies to clarify that a rule would not have significant economic impacts on a substantial number of small entities.
