House Coal Caucus looks for policy wins under Trump

A group of House Republicans relaunched the Congressional Coal Caucus this week with hopes of securing a number of policy wins under the incoming Trump administration — from axing Biden-era rules to expanding mining.

Reps. Carol Miller of West Virginia, Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, Morgan Griffith of Virginia and Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania said they wanted to see a rise in coal production.

“I am confident that with the support of the Trump-Vance administration and Congress’ efforts, U.S. coal production will thrive,” Miller said in a joint release.

Coal production and employment has been generally declining because of market conditions, regulations and other factors. Analysts don’t expect that trend to change.
