Sen. Martin Heinrich’s early honeymoon with President Donald Trump’s Interior nominees might be short-lived.
The New Mexico Democrat and ranking member on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee supported Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s nomination.
But in a recent interview with POLITICO’s E&E News, he sounded off on his concerns about public lands after being asked about Trump’s nomination of Kathleen Sgamma to lead the Bureau of Land Management.
Heinrich did not mention Sgamma, a fossil fuel lobbyist, by name. But he responded to a question about her nomination by slamming the administration for prioritizing energy production on public lands over all other uses.
