Heinrich slams Trump public lands posture after BLM pick

The top Democrat on Senate Energy and Natural Resources said the administration was prioritizing energy production on public lands over all other uses.

Sen. Martin Heinrich’s early honeymoon with President Donald Trump’s Interior nominees might be short-lived.

The New Mexico Democrat and ranking member on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee supported Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s nomination.

But in a recent interview with POLITICO’s E&E News, he sounded off on his concerns about public lands after being asked about Trump’s nomination of Kathleen Sgamma to lead the Bureau of Land Management.

Heinrich did not mention Sgamma, a fossil fuel lobbyist, by name. But he responded to a question about her nomination by slamming the administration for prioritizing energy production on public lands over all other uses.
