A prominent U.S. climate denial group is expanding to Europe.

The Illinois-based Heartland Institute opened a new satellite branch last month in the United Kingdom. It aims to be a resource for conservative European lawmakers who champion the “principles of liberty and economic prosperity in an era of increasing regulation and anti-growth policies,” said Heartland President James Taylor in a statement.

Heartland, which has received funding from fossil fuel companies and conservative foundations opposed to climate regulations, has been instrumental in working to confuse the American public about global warming by elevating researchers, scientists and lawyers who reject the scientific consensus on climate change and downplay the consequences of a warming planet.
