Groups sue to block Trump spending freeze

The president has directed agencies to review all federal grants and loans for consistency with the new administration’s policies.

Advocacy groups are filing a temporary restraining order against President Donald Trump’s move to pause federal agency grants and loans.

The National Council of Nonprofits filed its motion along with public health and small business leaders in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the group announced Tuesday on the social media platform X.

“This reckless action by the administration would be catastrophic for nonprofit organizations and the people and communities they serve,” wrote Diane Yentel, president and CEO of the council.

“From pausing research on cures for childhood cancer to halting housing and food assistance, shuttering domestic violence and homeless shelters, and closing suicide hotlines, the impact of even a short pause in funding could be devastating and cost lives,” she continued.
