Voters in Ohio this week will pick the Republican candidate to go against Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in one of the nation’s most closely watched races of the year.
The Ohio seat is considered one of the seats most likely to flip to GOP control. Since Democrats currently have just a 51 to 49 margin in the upper chamber, the Ohio race could decide control of the Senate.
Primaries in a handful of key House races in Ohio will be the same day, including in the special election to replace former Republican Rep. Bill Johnson, a major fossil fuel supporter.
Illinois will also hold primaries, while California’s 20th District will hold the first of potentially two races to replace Kevin McCarthy, the former House speaker.
