Former Rep. Fred Upton, a Michigan Republican who chaired the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is crossing party lines and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in her run for the White House.

Upton, who retired in 2022 after 36 years in Congress, told The Detroit News on Thursday morning he would vote for the Democratic nominee over his party’s contender — former President Donald Trump.

Upton described Trump as “totally unhinged” and reaping “chaos.” “We need to move forward,” he said, “and that’s why I’m where I am.”
