Leaders from several industries — including energy — asked Congress to streamline cybersecurity requirements to lessen costs and maximize efficiency.

The House Oversight and Accountability Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology and Governmental Innovation held a hearing on the issue Thursday.

“Unfortunately, federal regulations intended to mitigate cybersecurity risk, often subjected key industry participants to overlapping and inconsistent requirements. This creates an inefficient regulatory regime the cost and burden of compliance is high,” said Chair Nancy Mace (R-S.C.).
