Steven Nadel plans to step down from his post as executive director of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, the nonprofit announced Thursday.
Nadel, who joined the Washington-based research group in 1989 as its fourth staff member, has led the organization since 2001. He plans to step down later this year, and the ACEEE board is launching a search for his replacement.
“We have made incredible progress reducing energy waste in this country, but the continuing challenges of energy costs and the climate, along with new load growth demands, make the work ahead critical,” Nadel said in a statement. “It’s time for me to pass the baton and watch new leadership take on the next opportunities.”
The nonprofit organization, which employs about 80 people, develops policies aimed at reducing energy waste and combating climate change.
