The Democratic National Convention’s first day of festivities is slated to feature speeches from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain in addition to outgoing President Joe Biden.
Monday’s main stage speeches at the United Center in Chicago will be around the “For the People” theme, with significant focus on the record of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee in November’s election against former President Donald Trump, organizers told reporters Monday.
Other featured speakers will include Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was the Democrats’ unsuccessful nominee in the 2016 presidential election.
“Joe Biden showed this country what real leadership looks like. It’s about getting things done for the American people. Results, progress. Doing the right thing simply because it is the right thing,” Cedric Richmond, a former adviser to Biden and co-chair of Harris’ campaign, told reporters.
