House Democrats on Tuesday named new leaders for two Oversight and Government Reform subcommittees with jurisdiction over energy policy and regulations.
Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), coming off an unsuccessful run for ranking member on the House Natural Resources Committee, will lead Democrats on the new Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE), which will oversee the Trump administration’s spending and rules-slashing commission, which goes by the same acronym.
In addition, Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), the youngest member of Congress, will become ranking member of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy and Regulatory Affairs.
The two progressives are now in position to lead Democrats’ defense against Trump’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency, whose leader Elon Musk has vowed to roll back dozens of government regulations, including on energy and the climate. Trump began that work Monday with a number of executive orders.
