Democrats kicked off their presidential nominating convention by looking back at President Joe Biden’s agenda on climate change and other policies, while promising that Vice President Kamala Harris would defend it if elected.
While energy and environment weren’t main features in any of Monday’s speeches at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, a number of speakers addressed the issue.
“We deserve leaders who acknowledge the threats — heck, the existence — of climate change,” said Lina Hidalgo, the elected executive for Harris County, Texas, after recalling Harris’ call to her in the midst of the February 2021 blackouts in the state.
Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois made reference to “electric vehicles in Michigan” as an example of new manufacturing activity since Biden took office. The brief comment elicited cheers from the gathered delegates.
