A conservative activist group announced Monday it’s suing the California Coastal Commission for records and communications related to the agency’s decision to reject an increase in SpaceX rocket launches.

Judicial Watch, a Washington-based nonprofit that files public record requests, filed a December complaint in San Francisco County Superior Court alleging that the commission missed legal deadlines to respond to a California Public Records Act request submitted on Oct. 16, 2024.

The group said it asked the commission for emails, text messages, letters and more from the agency’s 17 regular and alternative commissioners from April 1, 2023, to present.

Judicial Watch said the commission acknowledged receipt of the request Oct. 25 but then didn’t respond to a follow-up email Nov. 13.
