Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly is running to replace Rep. Jamie Raskin as the top Democrat on the Oversight and Accountability Committee.
Connolly is the first Democrat to formally jump into the race after Raskin (D-Md.) announced he would try to take the party’s top job on Judiciary. POLITICO first reported Tuesday that Connolly was calling colleagues about the spot.
“I write to respectfully request your support for my candidacy for Ranking Member on the Committee on Oversight and Accountability in the 119th Congress,” Connolly wrote in a letter to his colleagues, a copy of which was obtained by POLITICO.
“Oversight Democrats must be an aggressive team focused on defending American democracy from President Trump and articulating a Democratic agenda that resonates with our constituents,” he added.
