The Senate is expected to take up compromise water infrastructure legislation as soon as this week after easy House passage on Tuesday.
The “Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act” would fight flooding and extreme storms, improve the nation’s ports and support ecosystem restoration. It passed the House 399-18. All the opponents were Republicans.
The bipartisan compromise bill would authorize a range of flood protection, navigation and restoration projects and studies and would direct the Army Corps of Engineers to make major policy changes.
Top members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee had been negotiating in recent weeks to get a final bill over the finish line.
