The House Natural Resources Committee on Wednesday approved critical minerals, geothermal energy and federal lands legislation.

H.R. 8665, the “Supercritical Geothermal Research and Development Act,” passed by voice vote. The bill, from House Science, Space and Technology Chair Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), would have the Department of Energy focus more on so-called supercritical geothermal, which requires deep drilling.

Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) said the bill “brings us one step closer to fully implementing the incredible opportunity that geothermal energy presents.”

The House has passed two geothermal energy bills in recent weeks. They were sponsored by Republicans but got some Democratic support. Others are pending.
