Former Republican Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy, President Donald Trump’s nominee for Transportation secretary, cleared the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on Wednesday afternoon.
The panel voted 28-0 for Duffy, also a former Fox Business host, after he promised during his confirmation hearing last week to avoid partisanship in his new job.
“As secretary he will prioritize safety while fixing our broken permitting system,” Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Wednesday.
Democrats said they were impressed by Duffy’s record in Congress, even while they remain concerned about the Trump administration’s transportation plans, including rolling back efforts to promote electric vehicles.
