A conservative clean energy organization is throwing its support behind 40 congressional Republicans, many of whom are locked in tight races, as the GOP tries to win back the Senate and retain its House majority.

The candidates being backed by Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions include many high-profile moderates, notably Mariannette Miller-Meeks, chair of the House Conservative Climate Caucus, and Lori Chavez-DeRemer of Oregon, who is a vice chair of the group. Both of those races are considered toss-ups by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Several New York moderates, including Andrew Garbarino, co-chair of the Bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, won the group’s endorsement. His seat is considered safe, but fellow New Yorkers Mike Lawler and Marc Molinaro are seen as toss-ups.

“Now more than ever, we need policymakers in Congress who embrace commonsense energy solutions that lower costs for American families and reduce global emissions. CRES is proud to endorse these leaders for doing just that,” Heather Reams, CRES’s president, said in a statement on the endorsements.
