The White House fired off a veto threat Tuesday against Republican legislation to undo the Department of Energy’s efficiency rules for residential gas furnaces.

The Senate could vote on S.J. Res. 58, from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), as soon as Tuesday. The Congressional Review Act resolution would scrap DOE’s mandate that new devices be 95 percent efficient by 2028.

A White House statement of administration policy noted DOE updates efficiency rules in compliance with the 1975 Energy Policy and Conservation Act.
