An upgrade to a battery manufacturing facility in Lancaster, Ohio, marks the first project to come online after receiving funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law.
Leadership from the Department of Energy and Cirba Solutions cut the ribbon at the newly upgraded lithium-ion recycling factory partially funded by a $75 million grant from the Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains.
The office awarded a total of $1.8 billion in grants laid out by the bipartisan infrastructure law for 14 projects meant to process and manufacture critical minerals needed for batteries.
Cirba Solutions also committed another $400 million to expand the facility.
