Ali Zaidi is preparing to leave the White House to make room for a Trump team that’s pledging to take a sledgehammer to much of his work.
But the outgoing White House climate adviser isn’t despondent — at least not publicly. Zaidi says he’s staying optimistic about the fate of the climate and the policies his team put in place to protect it.
When he’s asked whether the climate is screwed — “and I do get asked” — “I’m unequivocal on my no,” Zaidi said in an interview this month as he prepared to leave the Biden White House after four years helping to put climate and environmental policies on the books.
He’s too much of an optimist to accept the alternative, Zaidi said.
