The House Appropriations Committee is undergoing a minor shakeup for the new Congress, as a senior Democratic lawmaker is returning to the panel for the first time in over a quarter century.

Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), the former majority whip, will replace Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) as ranking member on the Transportation-Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee.

Clyburn last served on the committee in 1999. Quigley will be a member of three subcommittees, including T-HUD, though not as a ranking member on any of them. Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) remains chair of T-HUD.

The announcement of the new committee rosters comes at a thorny time for Congress, which has yet to finalize fiscal 2025 spending. The federal government is currently running on a stopgap spending bill, with a March 14 deadline looming.
