Schools in Alaska, Florida and other states around the country have been selected as winners of Energy Department prizes for energy efficiency and air quality upgrades.
The department on Monday announced its picks for prizes under a program called Renew America’s Schools, a $500 million program funded by the bipartisan infrastructure law enacted in 2021.
The prizes announced this week are part of a three-phase $190 million investment to help K-12 public schools make upgrades to slash their energy use, cut costs and improve air quality, DOE announced.
“With today’s funding, DOE is creating new pathways for districts and partners so thousands of students can learn in safe, sustainable schools creating a healthy environment for all,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement.
